French companies Elements and Innowtech are presenting a new robot at the Start-Up Planet that can monitor and study radioactive areas in nuclear facilities.

Innowtech supplies the robot on wheels, while Elements provides the WiFi hub and communication links that connect the robot to an operator in a safe area.

The robot carries a camera and sensor to enable it to undertake dose mapping, measuring areas of high and low radioactivity;

The r3Care technology monitors the health of equipment in the ‘hot’ areas of a nuclear facility and can detect when equipment is about to fail.

The first tests have taken place in recent weeks at the Blayais nuclear power plant near Bordeaux in south-western France, and further tests are planned for the near future.
